Eyeliner Applications
Close-Set Eyes:
Line outer third of upper lids with gray, brown, or black liner. Smudge gently. Use a lighter liner on the inner eye to widen the space between eyes.
Small Eyes:
Draw a dark line gradually thickening at outer edge of the eye. Use a light-colored pencil (gold, silver, white) and draw under lower lash.
Deep-Set Eyes:
Line upper lash line with pale, shimmery liner. Then line outer edge of lower lash with a soft, neutral shade (gray or taupe). This will create the illusion of a less heavy lid.
Drooping Eyes:
Line outer third of eye very close to lashes, carefully sweeping the liner up at the corner of the eye.
Eye Liner
You can use an eye pencil instead of eye liner to create the same effect.
How to Apply Eye Liner to Change the Way Your Eyes Look
The purpose of eyeliner is to frame and define the contour of your eyes in order to draw attention to them. Pencils used for lining eyes should be soft and smudgy, so they do not drag the skin around the eye during application.
More Round
 |
Use eyeliner to outline the contour of your eyes at the base of the eyelashes and continue toward the outer corner, thicken and "wing" the line upward. |
More Oval
 |
Start a fine line at the base of your eyelid, thicken it in the middle, and draw it toward the outer corner of your eyes. |
Close Together
 |
Use eyeliner to draw a tapered line starting thick on the inner corner of your eye and narrowing through to the outer corner of the eye. |
Farther Apart
 |
Apply eyeliner and start the line away from the inner corner of your eye thickening toward the outer edge and extend it slightly upward. |
Larger
 |
Trace a fine line of eye liner around the contour of your eye and also draw a fine line at the base of the upper and lower lashes for more definition. |
